What is LaterLife?
Laterlife ministry is an outreach to older people in our community, many of whom have experienced loss (of health, independence, role in society, family) and struggle with loneliness. We want to extend our community to include them, sharing with them God’s love and grace.
What do we do?
We currently have teams visiting 2 residential homes each month. We try to build friendship, by chatting and sharing with residents. We often have opportunities to encourage and pray with them. Many residents may have been very active previously in church, but may no longer be able to do so, and so we try to support them in their faith. We sometimes play music and sing hymns or familiar songs together. We occasionally have special events like a fireworks party or Christmas Carol service.
What is our vision?
We would love to expand our teams and visit many more homes that currently have no contact with a church, reaching the 100s of older people who live there with God’s love and grace. In the future we would like to be able to run an event at church such as a lunch club or a tea dance to gather older people who may be isolated in their own homes.
How do I get involved?
If you think you might like to get involved please speak to James or Julie Harley. You could come with one of the teams to visit a home, to see if it could be an area you would like to serve in.
