Compassion Ministries
In the City of Hull we have a large number of homeless and vulnerably housed men and women of all ages. Our aim is to show God love in action to those we come into contact with. Over the years we have been involved in a number of different initiatives. Currently the volunteers in our compassion outreach are involved in a ‘soup kitchen’ twice a week, distribution of food parcels, the development of a ‘pampering’ ministry to homeless women and work among prostitutes.
Soup Kitchen
Our ‘soup kitchen’ serves lunch twice a week to those in need of food. There is no charge and everyone is welcome. The idea is to provide a safe place where we can feed the poor and show them the kindness and acceptance of Christ. Our teams serve food wash up, play chess with our guests, direct the needy to specific professional help and at the same time have fun loving what they are doing.
Food Parcels
In addition to the cooked food available on the two specific days we provide emergency food parcels for those who find themselves without food or money. We work in conjunction with a large number of agencies in the City and they refer on to us for help, we have been able to offer practical advice as well as prayer to a number of these men and women.
Pampering
We would love to see the people who come to understand about self worth and personal dignity and we want to treat them as we think Jesus would have done. We have a special afternoon ‘just for women’ when we offer them facials, manicures and other treatments in the hope of lifting them out of their circumstances and allowing them to feel special, albeit for a short period of time.
Connecting with Women in Prostitution
These women are offered a range of services by a team of women from the church; they work with volunteers from other churches to run a mobile drop in centre. They can find themselves in various situations from offering care and support to accompanying women to court hearings.
